Marketing Tips for Intelligent Dummies

by Martha Chan

Best Investment“Intelligent Dummies” are smart professionals who do dumb things outside of their areas of expertise and interest. I include myself and some of my family lawyer clients in this category. At times, we just need a friendly nudge to do what we know is good for us, and this column is intended to be just that.

I did not coin the term “Intelligent Dummies” with the intention to offend anyone. I use it truly to express my feeling that most of the time we are so busy doing what we love to do that we ignore some of the other important aspects of our business or our lives.

It has worked for me when my financial advisor gives me a nudge that it is time to make $x contribution to my retirement savings plan because it will be to my tax advantage to do so. Or when a friend in IT tells me it is worth it to trade in my iPhone for a Samsung because they have the features that I want. I have no doubt, I wouldn’t have done anything if not for the nudges from these experts.

These experts live and breathe in tax and the latest computer technology. I am grateful to have them around me to nudge me even when I didn’t know I needed it. I urge you to do the same, find a marketing expert you can trust, and listen to them.
